I just imported my car from the US and signed up for insurance with Allianz-Suisse as they said "we have a special relationship with the Swiss government that allows us to insure cars with foreign plates".

After just a few weeks with Allianz-Suisse, I have been told that there have been changes in Swiss law such that the insurance will not be valid if we travel outside of Switzerland beginning on January 1st, 2011.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Anyone have another insurance agency you could recommend that will be able to insure our car with US plates?

well,, I have contacted Allianz-suisse recently but nothing mentioned about it.

I have been informed that Allianz-Suisse can no longer provide insurance for vehicles that still have US license plates.

I have been referred to Zurich insurance.

Also, talk to Chartis in Zurich. They have my policy (written through Italsure but I'd avoid Italsure if at all possible).

To follow up on this, Zurich Connect appears to be working out for me. The only time we have used it thus far is for one of the many times I have left the lights on and needed a jump.

It is interesting to note that it was the first time that this happened was with Allianz Suisse. It was during the filing of this claim that we discovered that they could not actually provide coverage despite what the salesman had said and all of the paperwork that I had been issued saying that I was covered.

I just received a bill from Allianz Suisse asking for me to pay 160 CHF for the tow truck drivers time.
