I know there have been several posts regarding this, but i'm still a little unclear as to what is required. I'm importing a 2008 caliber and it arrives sometime this week. We've found insurance but still confused as to where the best place to go for a inspection. Is it best to go directly to a dealership or are there other authorized garages that we can visit?

Thanks, but I'm not importing a Jag (although I wish I was!). and sorry, after trying to read through the german websites, I am just getting more and more lost as google translator isn't perfect thus why I posted the question. I've read through about 20 posts on here, but I can't find a basic run down of what the steps are - just a bit of a mish mash of different things.

Any chance there is a quick general run down, in english, of what to do - both for me and for future people so we can avoid reading countless posts about specific car makes and all the discussion around headlights?

For example -
is it a good idea to take it to a dealership that sells that type of car (or any garage if it doesn't matter) for a pre-inspection or is it better to just go do an inspection and see what they say first

where do you take it for the inspection (and I honestly don't know where to take it - I thought i found the address on one site, but the translation wasn't exactly clear, so I know people on here don't like to answer questions that a google search can find, but it's all in German, so please take pity on me!)

The best solution for you would be to take it to the main dealer in the canton where you live, for the manufacturer of your car.

One of these offices will be qualified to test your car (Choose the nearest), but it needs to be ready for inspection and the paperwork completed first.

This is what we did for our car that we brought from Vancouver last summer. Aside fro the fact the the motor vehicle department was a bit over run nad we had to wait for our dealer to get us in I do think he got us in faster than if we tried to do it on our own. Everything else was very smoth. We had our car air care inspected in Canada before we shipped it and it was a watse of time and money as they have thier own rules and reg her for that, newer models of Candian Cars seem to pass with flying colours. Good luck.

Please see one of my posts on how I did it. If you are brining it in yourself, you will need to get some paperwork at the border. If it is coming by xport company, they will do that for you.
