MFK accepted from different canton?

I am currently in the market for a used car, and intend to only purchase one that has recently passed inspection. My question is whether I will be able to register a car in Zurich without getting an MFK done in Zurich, or whether inspections are honored across cantons. Thanks in advance.

Re: MFK accepted from different canton?

If it's been done within the past two years, it is fine.

I disagree, as always with you! [And please note: being a gentleman I didn't have to groan at you.]

I know from personal experience that in Fribourg and in Berne and in Geneva you will be told to do the test again if it is older than 2 months, younger tests are accepted.

The cantons give the reason that if they take the car as it is, it will be 2 years plus the time from the last test before the car is tested again. They don't seem to want to, or cannot, put your fresh car in the appropriate place in the queue.

The TCS will also do the test, but only if under two years from the last one.

.

Well, I have to disagree with you...

I bought two cars in Switzerland so far, none in the Canton I lived. Zurich never had any issue with a MFK from SH or TG.

Re: MFK accepted from different canton?

Again - it depends on the age of the car - and the time since the last MFK.

I bought a 20 year old car with a 1 week old MFK from GR to ZH - no problem.

Well maybe the OP should ask at his local office, http://tel.local.ch/en/q/Zurich%20(C...rkehrsamt.html

I didn't write they don't. I wrote they don't accept older test certificates.

Re: MFK accepted from different canton?

It must depend on the canton then, as my car and bike MFK were several years old when I moved from ZH to TI, and it was another year before I even got around to switching from ZH to TI plates!

So, yes, check what the rule is in your canton.

Ah. I have been wondering why ZH hasn't contacted me. I have a 2001 car that was imported from France into Switzerland in 2006.

2001 Nov - Car bought in France by friend.
2006 sometime - Car imported into Basel-Land by friend. MFK done.
2008 May - I bought car off friend and registered it in Zurich
2010 Nov - Expected MFK but nothing.

I thought the MFK was due after the first 5 years, then again after 3 more and then every 2 years?? Not sure if I should voluntary submit it.

No, just wait until they call you in, it's their problem not yours!
