Car Battery Disposal

Hi All,

I have just replaced the battery in my car and would like to know how to dispose of/send for recycle the old one. I have tried taking it to the recycling center who were having none of it.

Any help appreciated.

Chris

Re: Car Battery Disposal

It has to be returned to the place of purchase, says this post.

Where can I return old batteries?

Many people don't know: A take back requirement is in force for the trade in Switzerland. This means, batteries and rechargeable batteries can be returned to the place of purchase free of charge. In Switzerland, there are more than 12,000 collection points:
– Retail trade
– General stores
– Photo, electronics and mobile communication stores
– Kiosks, gas station shops, etc.

Re: Car Battery Disposal

Take it to any place that sells car batteries, even Migros.

At the Migros down the street (Taverne), people (including me) leave them inside to the left of the door.

You don't even need to take it where you bought it, ANYONE who sells car batteries must take it!

Re: Car Battery Disposal

What about engine coolant liquid?

Does anyone knows place where it can be disposed?

I don't know which canton you live in, but try your Gemeinde / Commune.

Here, I think you just dump it.

There are collection places for oil, but not coolant.

I'll stop by the local garage tomorrow on my walk to work and ask what they do with it.

I am in VD. Well, I can ask local "garbage place" regarding this. I also saw place to dump engine oil, I hoped there is place for coolant as well.

Is giving the used batter to any car battery seller for free? I bought my battery last week online and replaced myself.

Yes, Migros for example, or take it to the collection on big garbage day.
