Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

and what would you recommend for registration? Have it checked first at TCS for compliance and then to Registration or try the Registration and see on what it fails?

(The car is from US and is not sold in Europe)

Id reccomend registration then have it checked. You dont have to check for compliance then, when you go to register it, they will tell you exactly what needs doing to it. Your saving the tcs price then . Just check online what need s doing to ensure it complies. Ie headlights brakes and exhaust emmisions.

Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

Could anyone, please advise on the approximate car registration (including road tax) costs of of an 5 year old Cayenne S (with 4'511 ccm and 340 hp engine) for the non-resident to Switzerland at e.g. kanton Zurich!?
If too hard to answer the above, could anyone please advise where I can obtain such information, before I buy it!
Thanks.

Depends where you are buying it from as if it is coming from US it will require mods to register. Not sure if you can register a car to swiss plates if not resident though.

Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

hia, so my question is not about registration but about giving back the number plates while we are out of the country.

is it worth to give the numbers back when one is out for 3 months?

will this change in any way how the car insurance is billed?

any hints by people who had done this before will be greatly appreciated.

/f

yes, i read almost all this thread and was blind to see something on this note, please excuse me if that was the case.. the thread is long and the search function brings to broad results on th words car+number+plate

Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

The benefit is that you no longer have to reapply and paying for plates when you buy your new car . You simply put them on your car and drive.
Remember plates are personal and not belonging to your vehicle.

Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

Hi, need advice on "Wechselschilder" issue (two cars, one plate).

My wife and I are buying a second car and will probably not drive the first one for the next 6-8 months (I will drive the first one again only when I move to a new appartment or, if I decide not to move, I will try to sell it).

Is it worth to have only one plate for both cars during a 6-month period?

can I leave the car without identification plates parked at an outdoor parking place?

I will probably pay less taxes and insurance for the new car, but afterwards I will have to pay again for the new paperwork. So I am worried that the paperwork taxes will not compensate the insurance and taxes economy.

Re: Fact Sheet #1 - Car Registration and Number Plates

you can park car on a PRIVATE parking space wthout plates but not on the street.

you say the "new" second car will cost less in insurance and road tax than the existing vehicle therefore it must be smaller engined. with wechselnummern you would continue to pay the higher rate of insurance and road tax on the bigger vehicle.taxsytems vary with cantons, my first car here (FR) is rated at 100% and the second at 40%.
in BE you seem to pay for the combined total loaded weight of both vehicles.

the "paperwork" costs for a new fzg. ausweis that you seem concerned about vary slightly with cantons but are not hundreds of francs, here in FR it's Fr.50.- and it used to be even less if it was a vehicle you had already had on the road in your name previously.

go figger the difference between 6 months insurance and tax on big car/small car plus monthly off road parking charges minus Fr.50 or a little bit more.

an interesting philosophy you have there.

obviously money is no object if you'd prefer paying 3 months road tax and insurance to forking out the enormous sum they charge for storing the license plates for 3 months until you want to use them again.

Not according to this site: http://www.pom.be.ch/site/index/pom_...elschilder.htm

It says you pay based on the combined weight of the most heavy car: "Bei Fahrzeugen mit Wechselschildern ist für die Besteuerung das Gesamtgewicht des schwereren Fahrzeuges massgebend"
