How Do You Get The Lower Priced TGV Tickets To Paris?

Everyone has been telling me that if you book on a certain day or time you can get tickets for 30-50 CHF. I ask them how they obtain such a price, and they can't seem to answer. (I will be coming from Basel, so it would be a bit cheaper from Geneva or Zurich)

Does anyone here know? I went two months in advance to purchase tickets this September and they were 280 CHF each!!!

I've looked on the SNCF website, but someone told me that I would need a French address to have the more affordable tickets mailed to me. Is this true?

I've been in Europe over a year now and I still haven't made my dream trip to Paris.

Thank-you all!

It is true about having delivered/payed in EUR they are much cheaper. The cheapest I got was around 100 CHF. But I managed to get a 70 CHF one way Geneve Paris with Easy Jet just yesterday.

I got this just now doing a search for ZRH - PAR, displayed an offer for BASEL - PAR. Got it for CHF54 return.

PICCOLISSIMO was the fare basis.

Re: How Do You Get The Lower Priced TGV Tickets To Paris?

I am lucky that I live very near France. I always go to the station and talk in person with the guy at the desk, choosing a time when s/he is not busy. Lucky too that I ma flexible with dates- they always spend 15-20 mins looking at all the options for me, and always come up with great prices. But just like with cheap airlines, prices go up the nearer and the most popular the dates. I try to book 90 days in advance- the day tickets are made available.

Incredibly lucky too that the guy there has actually offered to give me some of his family and friends cheapos- as he doesn't use them all. Great. A good bottle of Malt for him too.

Re: How Do You Get The Lower Priced TGV Tickets To Paris?

I regularly take the TGV to Paris and always book them over tgv-europe.com. There you can look for tickets in the typical budget airline way. There's a mailing list that you can subscribe to. There sales are also regularly advertised in 20 minutes and obviously the earlier you book, the cheaper it is

I you get them over the SNCF website then you can also pcik them up from a SNCF train station, for example St. Louis which is right beside basel, but over tgv-europe.com you can now print the tickets out at home

St. Louis is what I was thinking, not fluent in French but can communicate my way through a ticket purchase.

Re: How Do You Get The Lower Priced TGV Tickets To Paris?

For me it is Pontarlier, as I live in the Neuchatel Jura, and I do speak fluent French, which helps of course. (easy- as I was born nearby).
