Van / trailer hire doodle

I did a search for one-way van and trailer rentals e.g I rent a van, drive my stuff from Zurich to London, unpack and hand the van over to somebody who wants to do the opposite journey.

There's quite a few one-off posts. Is there an EF doodle / equivalent? It sounds like a doodle type thing.

Nice idea, but how do you fix it with the insurance for the second driver on the return journey?

You can normally add a second driver to a rental agreement

.........who has to present their licence at time of rental.

And the primary renter has to leave their credit card details in case of damage - what happens when the other person damages it?

Nice idea - but I wouldn't do it.

Re: Van / trailer hire doodle

And doesn't the rental company like to make sure the person has a driving license, and is exactly the same person standing in front of the counter, is also the person that signed the rental agreement as a second driver?

You haven't thought this through at all. The second driver isn't a map reader, he has the same contractual liabilities to the hire company as the first driver. It won't work, unless the second driver is in Switzerland to sign the contract with you.

I was thinking more along the lines of a trailer, but it must be workable some how for van rental.

You lot don't work for UBS by any chance?

Every trailer I have rented has wanted a cash deposit. It took a lot of persuading to get one of them to return via a bank transfer.
