Renting a roof box

Afternoon!

We have been toying with the idea of buying a roof box for our Audi.

However I heard that you can rent them.

So I wondered if anyone on the forum has done this, if so can you share your experience (good, bad and ugly)? Also, can you recommend somewhere to rent - we are based in Thalwil.

We thought as it's our first winter here, we might go for the renting option. Just to see how much we actually need / use one.

Cheers,
JazzyJeff

Re: Renting a roof box

I'm sure if you did a google search you'd find loads. One place that I know did these is along the main road when you travel around the lake from Enge towards Rot fabrik. Mythenquai. There is a garage there that does tyres etc.. and Roof boxes (or did last time I went past it)

Re: Renting a roof box

As for experience of using one. We have one, and I took off the ski racks last night and put the roof box on instead. This means the ski's and snowboard stay dry and you don't worry about leaving them on the car over night in the snow and freezing cold. Also salt spray.

A friend of mine has his on the car all year round. With two kids and a saloon car, he often needs more space than the boot provides.

They come in a variety of sizes but obviously you should be careful not to over load them especially with heavy items.

In conclusion, they are great for bulky items whilst keeping them protected from the weather and salt spray.
