| | How to get a driving license for a scooter?
Hi Guys
I would like to know where can I find information about getting a driving license for a scooter. I don't know how to drive at all, and I wonder if it will be difficult to get a diving license just for a scooter.
If you could guide me in the right direction about driving schools and all the info that I might need I would really appreciate it.
I live in Zurich and I am really looking forward to start driving this spring
Thank you!!
C.

It will be great if someone who passed through this already can help me out. I don't speak German so is a little bit complicate for me. I just want some help from the experience of others.
Thank you anyway!

Thank you!
I just called the driving Instructor the people on the thread you send me recommended. But I am afraid I have to do the first Aid course and the first theory test before I start the lessons ( I don't know how to drive a at all) and they don't know where I can find this courses in English at least the lady who answered the phone because the instructor is on holiday.
I wonder if any of you know where I can find info for this courses in English.
Thank you!

What category are you aiming?
with 120ccm you dont need to make a test. Just take 6 mandatory lessons (next to the first aid thing etc..)

for an A1 licence, you need a basic training (assuming you have a car licence already) and you will need to take a test.

Cataline: "you dont know how to drive at all": does that mean you dont have the car license?
In that case:
Cat A1:
- max 125 ccm / 11 kw
- min age 18
- Courses:
- first aid (unless you hold cat B, or B1)
- base theory test (unless you hold cat B, or B1) - theory lesson "Verkehrskunde"
- mandatory lessons 8 lessons (and not 6 as I thought)
- Indeed (if you dont hold cat B or B1) there will be a test.
But dear, if you anyway have to make the test, aim for the big bike :-)
Else you will get addicted, and have to make another test again.
Or: You get a schooter 200ccm and make the test with it. Then you will have category A restricted, which will automatically become A unrestricted after 2 years.
And the school I recommend would be in Örlikon.

I know am lost. Well I don't know if I can take the first aid course in English and the theory test as well. I don't know how to drive a car, scooter, just bike haha and I have a vespa 125 waiting for me to ride it this spring time.
The lady who works for Mr. Tobler ( the instructor from oerlikon) said I have to do theory and first aid course before I start with the driving lessons.
Where should I call to find info? I am really hoping to start the course soon and the theory test as well so I could start with my lessons sorry but I am a total newby in this field and is more difficult with no German skills.
Thank you again!

I have a motorcycle license from the United States. I just moved to Zurich and I want to buy a Vespa 125cc scooter. Does anyone know if I have to still get a different license?

Thank you again! | | | | | As I have already explained to you, and which you chose to groan at (Which is a typical teenage action, but of course you are a sensible person and not at all like that) you can start off by going to a driving school. They will sell you the necessary learning material, arrange a first aid course, and even tell you where to take some lessons. But you choose to ignore this excellent advice and now you are back where you started. Please stop wasting our time and go to the driving school, and if they cannot teach you, then go to the next driving school.

Thanks for the welcome to Switzerland. I'll go ask at the police station. Do you ride a motorcycle of some sorts here?

this is valid for up to 125 ccm (a1)
if you have no previous license:
-take a first aid course (valid for 6 years)
-take the theoretical exam, then you will receive your "Lernfahrausweis". With this license you are allowed to drive around for 3 months with an "L"-Plate.
-During these 3 months, you need to complete the "Grundkurs", which is 2x4 hours. You will receive a stamp on your Lernfahrausweis, with this stamp the Lernfahrausweis will be automatically extented to one year.
-before taking the practical exam, you need to complete the "Verkehrskundeunterricht" (or VKU)
-when you have all these things, you can take the practical exam.
if you have a car license:
-you will receive the "Lernfahrausweis".
- turn in your Lernfahrausweis and you will receive your new license.
with all these courses you need to take, be prepared to spend a fortune! (the good thing is, vku, first aid course you will not need to pass anymore when you want to do the car license.)

You may need a document from your state in the US which tells more details such as how long you have been driving. Some states just have a code on the license for the motorcycle (similar to switzerland with the codes for different cc's etc) - if thats the case its probably best to take some sort of documentation explaining the code(s). I also took in the certificate of completing my "advanced motorcycle safety course" from the state. This wasn't a requirement but I figured since I have it, it could only help to bring it in.
It was very simple for me, I handed them all the documentation, made a special note verbally about the motorcycle to make sure they saw it and voila, 2 days later I had a license for driving with motorcycle (and a week later a bill). In canton Vaud it was the even the same price for a motorcycle license as a car (in the USA I had to pay a lot extra for motorcycle). BUT make sure you do it soon after you move to switzerland. I can't remember the exact time but if you wait too long you can't "transfer" your usa license and have to be in the same boat as the OP with the classes etc.
What is with this groaning thing? This Ittigen person just groaned at me. What does that even mean?
The post earlier clearly states you should go to a driving school in Switzerland. They will get you the necessary documents and tell you what to do.
I don't sit here telling the OP the correct procedure, for you to pop up and send people to the police station! The police have nothing to do with issuing driving licenses here! Only with taking them away! That is why you got a VERY RARE groan from me. And lili.ali whats his name got one too!
