Maybe they can make a movie on the horrors of eating on trains. Call it "Trainnoshing". Get some crappy Scottish actors and Bob's your uncle. Academy Awards for everyone.

Re: Should they ban eating on trains?

Yeah, but don't forget the best part of Zurich is the train to Basel. Which is why it took me 5 years to decide to up sticks and move to Downtown Switzerland.

Cheers,
Nick

Not to derail the thread but if wasting four hours of your day commuting is having a 'proper' job, I think I'll pass. I might as well be living in LA.

Re: Should they ban eating on trains?

Generally I don't mind too much what people do on trains.

However sat down for a 4 hour train journey yesterday and a family got on and proceeded to take up 4 sets of seats, about 1 person per 4 seats. The women then told a bloke opposite her that that was her seat and he should move because she wanted it. He of course refused and she complained to her husband, who tried to make the bloke move...thankfully he refused.
One of their children then started playing his handheld game, with the volume on.
I complained to him, so he turned it off and then switched on his stereo...with speakers and no headphones.
This time someone else complained and his Mum when mental saying her children should be able to do as they want. The kid did eventually turn it off.
The women then started to hold a conversation with her husband, who was 3 seats away before putting on her headphones and singing aloud to the entire train.
To cap it all she then started eating Pistachio nuts by putting the nut in her mouth and cracking it with her teeth...very irritating, before spitting the shells onto the floor.

Frankly these people are scum....they clearly had a lot of money (we were in first class) and absolutely no manners.
In this instance I believe shooting should be allowed, or maybe they could just be held down and we all get a free punch when getting off the train.

Re: Should they ban eating on trains?

The only time I was mildly irritated on the train was when I was beside some American drama students who were practicing the lines for their play. The same lines over and over and over again in their booming American voices.

I got up and moved to a different seat away from them. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Re: Should they ban eating on trains?

Your not allowed food on the buses here in Luzern, they're only used on short journeys anyway.

But banning food on the train? Ridiculous. If I can get on a train instead of a plane for a journey I will, because I can eat, drink and move around as I like, it's a huge benefit in my eyes. What would people do on a 3 hour plus journey, get off when it's time for lunch and wait for the next one?
