Can I drive my US car with proof of insurance?

Greetings,

Well we have a little over a month already in Switzerland, everything has gone relatively smooth (we still waiting our residency permit).
I know this topic has been mentioned many times, but I could not get a clear understanding on previous discussions, so I hope someone can clarify things for me.
Today we received our car from the US (VW Tiguan). I got copies of form 13.20A, customs clearance and a stamm-nummer (originals should arrive soon). I also received from our insurance, a "proof of insurance" copy.

Does anyone know if I actually need to register the car? or I am good to drive the car with this information for a year.

I know I still have to work on the homologation process, but that is another story for now.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you're fine for a year. Just keep copies of all that stuff with you. I crossed into France one sunny day and they wanted to see ALL of that stuff along with half the contents of my wallet.

Who did you find to insure you on a US plate?

Yes, I did it with two cars and a motorcycle for 11 months.. only problem is if you cross the border into another country.. you need to have your import papers to get back into switzerland. In the meantime you need to disconnect any yellow sidemarker lights and have a white parking lamps installed in your headlights, before MFK inspection.

As long as it has licence plates it can be insured here. No problem, even have an collector car from u.s. for 13 years never did the mfk it sits in a heated garage insured with U.S. plates.. Use a trailor to take it to shows when needed. With no mfk its not taxed for its value as property...

your US insurance would most likely not cover you in Europe. I needed to get overseas insurance from Geico's German office (even though I had geico in US). And you will get a "green card" insurance which is valid pretty much in all of the EU (and the UK). I got it very quickly withing a few days after I submitted application.
