Has anybody ever sold an order for a car?

I have an order in on a car, new to market, will be unveiled at Geneva next month, I'm sure it will be to rave reviews etc but I've been tempted to buy something else instead. I could just take delivery of the first car and sell it on, probably for a small profit, but I'd rather pass the order on at cost and avoid the hassle of taking delivery.
Has anybody ever done this, sold an order for a car that will have long waiting lists (I'm getting the first customer car in Switzerland) rather than selling the car itself? What's involved?
The dealer is reluctant to simply cancel the order because he doesn't want to run the risk of losing me as a customer so he is offering to defer my order.
Thanks for any helpful experiences.

You've bought a car that hasn't been unveiled yet? How do you do that? Can you say what car it is?

Lamborghini LP700-4. I've seen it at the factory last November.

Going for a 599 GTO instead

Glad to see you are going for a Ferrari instead.

I rather like the 458 but am also waiting to see what the new FF is going to look like.

The 599 maybe the last V12

As you are just round the corner from me, maybe you can show off the motor when it arrives....

I saw some pics of the FF. Something about the shape doesn't appeal to me. 458 and 599s are pretty though. I didn't see too many hot cars when I was scouting for my place to live, but I did notice a certain car dealership on Baarerstrasse!

Happy to! If I post a few photos when it arrives then please just ask.

There's an event for the FF at Maranello, followed by a dinner, on Tuesday. Unfortunately I can't attend, but it sounds good. I think the FF will grow on people.

I kinda like the look of it tbh.

Look forward to seeing whatever it is you end up with.

If you do another drive with Bigblue2, give me a shout. My Cayman S isn't quite a Lambo but its a start

Sure, no problem, probably when the snows melt on the passes.

Put it on ebay as an option to be the first customer in Switzerland?

If one doesn't want the hassle of a simple delivery - the hassle with the many idiots on ebay is a multiple of it... especially when we are talking about something in the line of a lambo.

Why isn't this relevant to the transport forum?

While we're on the topic of nice cars, where in Canton Zug can one "enjoy" one's car?
Nowhere.
Go to Germany.
See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_...n#Speed_limits
for some hints.

Re: Has anybody ever sold an order for a car?

Hate to be so basic, but what does your contract say? Do you actually have an option to sell your order on, rather than take delivery of the car and then flog it on as, effectively, second-hand, be that at a profit or not ?

They were probably thinking of setting up a "my knob is bigger that your knob" forum ... and thought this would fit nicely

Assuming all of this is actually genuine:
1) Read the contract - I am sure the dealer will be more than happy to let you back out
2) If that is an issue ask you PA or man servant to read it to you
3) I would really doubt you can sell on the order - The form from from ferrari was that you had to take receipt of the car and that any selling on was frowned upon ... if there was ever a next time.
4) If I was in the hunt for a Lambo, I wouldn't be posting on the EF about this topic, but talking to my mates at the yacht or polo club.

UTH - it's humour again, so hold back on the bad rep

The contract says nothing about assigning to somebody else, unfortunately.

Anyway, will be getting some proper advice on Monday, just wanted to ask because there are some people on here with a broad span of experience (no, Mr Hedgehog, that doesn't include you, you're just a buffoon)
