Driving test C for Truck taken outside Switzerland

Hi Everyone,
If you could help me with this question i would really appreciate it cheers.i am currently working in switzerland over a year now, i arrived hear on the 4th jan 2010, i held a full driving license for the car, bike and tractor. i needed the truck licence or category C for my job so i called the motor place in zurich and they said it was not possible to do the C test in english. so i set about going home last oct and doing it there i went home on the 25th and passed the test on the 29th of oct 2010, i then sent my license home in jan to get that category C onto my license, then on the 14th jan this year i got the license sent back to me from home with the new category dated 10th jan 2011, i then went in to my kanton motor office to change it over had my doctor test done all my particulers in order and handed them over with the license, 2 weeks later they sent me a letter asking when did i take the category C test, i wrote back and now they have said its not possible to give me the license with category C on it because i took the test outside of the country.is there any possibilty i can get this category put on to my swiss license.i am planning on staying in switzerland as long as they will have me.

Cheers
Kieran

The authorities have explained the position correctly. You can only exchange categories like for like for those that were on your license when you became resident in Switzerland.

I have been driving in Europe for 20 some years and living here for 13.. but am in the U.S alot have a house and truck there also... so for 12+ years I drove with my U.S. licence.. Was stopped a few times for checks and just showed my U.S. passport and U.S. licence.. nothing ever was said. I finally became a citizen here last year and thought it would be a good idea to get my licence here to match. I had and still have a commerical licence for the u.s. to drive everything. So I walked in.. came out with a licence here.. A,B,C,D,BE,CE,DE.. no problem. The truck/bus licences of course have to be renewed with dr's test every few years.
But they only give tests in German I was told if I'd had to take one. Was lucky

Re: Driving test C for Truck taken outside Switzerland

I've got the C1 and C1E category on my Swiss license with minimal fuss. I got them automatically at the time of taking my test in the UK, and simply applied to have all the same categories for my Swiss license, in addition to getting my eyes tested I had to take an extra physical with a doctor.

The license authority only checked that I hadn't submitted the categories by mistake, I just told them I wanted all the same categories as my UK license.

Perhaps it's not the same situation, as you mentioned taking the C test recently, I had to do no such thing, also I guess there's a difference between C and C1.
