| | Zurich travel card cost
Hello everyone. This is my first attempt on posting a thread and seeing as I'm completely clueless to life in Switzerland, I'm trying my best to do my homework prior to my moving there (in 2 days.. talk about a crash course!)
I'm trying to figure out how much a travel card will cost me and I'm having difficulty calculating the prices.
If I've understood correctly, Zurich is zone 10 which means that I should be doubling all the prices I see at the price board for the ZVV network pass. In addition to that, I should be looking at the prices for zones 1-2, correct?
So in total I should be prepared to pay CHF711 X 2 = CHF1422 for an annual ZVV Network pass, right??
Would getting the halbtax card allow me to pay half that price or does that card not apply for Zurich network passes?
Thank you for taking time to read this and I would like to apologize for my ignorance but I am so very confused!

No, for just Zone 10 the price would be CHF 711 - since that is for 1 - 2 zones (and Zone 10 is only 2 zones, not more).
The half-tax card doesn't apply to annual passes.
I would suggest you get both (annual Zone 10 pass & half-tax pass) because, unless you're a hermit and never go anywhere other than home to work and back, you will travel outside Zone 10 at times ... and even two longer trips (eg, to Geneva, or Lugano) would more than cover the cost of the half-tax card.
I'd also suggest getting the combined Mobility membership, unless you intend to buy a car. Sometimes (eg, buying furniture from somebody else!) you'll need a vehicle to move stuff. For just CHF 25 extra (unless the price has changed) it's worth having that available.

thank you so much for this! I will get them both
I need to do some research on whether my driving license is valid in Switzerland. For CHF 25 it's not really a big deal mind you. Thank you thank you thank you!

I presume you've already found the ZVV website?
Or, for more freedom, the SBB?
(Even if you have, these links might help others looking at this thread)

And some time on a wet Sunday, have a quick look at ALL the Stickies in the various sub-forums. (They are at the top of the list of Threads). There is so much info in there - it will save you a lot of questions and save future searchers finding the same question answered 3467 times.

Thank you thank you thank you! | | | | | For your driver's licence, check here - in German, sorry, but Google Translate is your friend ... http://www.stva.zh.ch/internet/siche...umschreib.html
The link you really want is "Merkblatt Der Weg zum schweizerischen Führerausweis" - summary of the steps you need, with a list of the countries whose licences are 'equivalent' and don't need a driving test.
You have twelve months of living here before you need to convert, anyway ...
