I have a flat battery on my BMW X5 E53 and looking for a replacement battery. I found one on-line from Amazon.de for Euro 114.00 and same one costing me CHF 270 in Jumbo. I wanted to know, if anyone ordered a car battery online? from Amazon or ebay. Any suggestions or experiences pls?

I drove over to German OBI, Lise-Meitner-Ring 8, 79761 Waldshut-Tiengen (opposite Koblenz) & picked up a 70ah battery for about 120euro but if you are not mobile then I guess that option does not work for you?

That sounds like a good idea. I will ring them first to see if they have any suitable batteries available for my car model.

They had Silver Bosch which were about 20 euro dearer but I bought the cheap one - don't remember the name, "IQ" maybe, & with 2 year warranty.

Please let me know how much it worked out for you in total and if you do not have to worry about warranty lapse, I will do same thing in the future.

Had a steering column replaced lately due to steering wheel lock error quite common in BMW 325i 2006/2007 models. They didn't charge me for spare part and labour but they were happy to find out that my battery was flat (something I never had problem with before) and the car wouldn't start during diagnostics. WTF first time never heard of ???

Anyway the bill came two days ago in my mail charged for spare battery CHF245 + installation CHF67 + registration (authentication) of the battery some CHF25 (another WTF). In total CHF337. And the car is under 2 years warranty but apparently it doesn't cover consumables.

Needless to say, it is another common problem with 3-Series, so I read on www.bimmerpost.com that these batteries pack up so fast like no one's business. They make great cars but they milk you like cows.

Bosch Silver was for 189, I think. Both of them have 2 years warranty. Mine was a bit bigger battery (BMW X5) thats why its bit dearer.

I still have to fix this battery, but surprisingly, my car is not giving any starting problem this morning (I mean with old battery). I am in real doubt if it was really a flat battery or something else is problem.

If it is not a battery problem, probably I will return this battery, as I have 14 days return period, though I don't know return policy applies to battery like items. Have any one has experience in returning a battery like items with in 14 days?

One more thing. OBI is saying VAT (19%) return does not applies to auto parts. So I did not get the VAT return claim form. >> any ideas on this.

I would have thought the cost of shipping would be prohibitive due to the weight of the battery. Did Amazon.de offer shipping to CH and if so how much?

ebay.ch has some batteries listed with them. They do Swiss shipping, that is cheaper, though I don't know how trust worthy it is.

This is a good shop if you are located in Zurich. I went there summer of 2009 when my battery died on my Audi S8 (so it was a big one). (My cousin left the rear tv's on and they drained the battery). They charged me CHF 200 for a Banner battery. I picked it up and walked with it back to the office and then trammed it home and therefore didn't need to get it shipped. I assume you are able to carry a battery but be warned as Swiss people will obviously have never thought of this possible and will stare you down like you are a lunatic.

Also, they will charge you a fee that you should get back once you bring in the old batt back to them.
