Can I sell my improted car, less than one year

many posts are talking about import a car. but i am facing a problem to sell my imported car, since we are leaving Switzerland.

my car was imported from Germany and i would like to selll it here before i go back. the car was imported through zoll more than one year but registered in swizterland less than one year. I read somewhere in the forum that imported less than one year car cannot be sold. but how about the case like me? just dump the car on the street ?

Re: Can I sell my improted car, less than one year

There is a distinction that you have missed (to the best of my knowledge based on personal experience).

If you have imported a car and PAID the import duties on it, you do not have a problem to sell it within one year. You will need to provide the buyer with the customs papers to avoid any question later on.

If you have imported a car AS PERSONAL PROPERTY during your move to CH and did NOT PAY any duties on it, you will have to now pay those duties to be able to sell the car in CH. The time cut-off for the pay/do not pay is one year.

So, yes you can sell a imported car in less than one year. The CH government just wants their money (duties) if they were not already paid. The duties will probably be based on the declared value of the car when you imported it.

You will need to check with Customs but I would think that the ONE year starts the date that the paperwork is stamped by Customs and not when you put CH plates on it.

Make sense?

Yup, the relevant date is date of import, not date of reregistration in CH.
