| | children on a motorcycle??
What is the minimum age a child must be to legally ride on a motorcycle? I've seen very young children on motorscooters ( 5 +/- years old )but not aware of a minimum age or height for motorcycles. I've seen laws in the UK where if the child reaches the footpegs on passenger seat then big enough.

I found this Traffic Rules page in German Art. 63 184 Mitfahren auf Motorrädern und Fahrrädern
(Art. 30 Abs. 1 SVG)
Motorbikes
One passenger, must sit astride the bike and must be able to put the feet on the foot rests.
Children under the age of seven must be seated on a children's seat which has been accepted by the authorities.

I'm myself a motorbiker and I will never put my kids on it (if I have kids once...) it's just too dangerous.

Thanks for the information. I agree it's more dangerous than being in a car but if the Swiss authorities deem it legal then that's good enough for this family. I don't want to start a rukus about wether forum members would consider parents irresponsable bringing a child on a motorcycle though. I coming from an entire family of gear heads including motorcycles I can attest to some of my fondest memories riding around the countryside clutching to my father and whole weekends blasting around on dirt bikes with my brothers before the age of 10.

I guess context is everything. I hate seeing a guy in full leathers weaving between traffic with a kid in jeans/trainers on the back, but driving down a country road on a quiet day wearing the right gear is quite another matter.
Swizerland is one of the best and safest countries to ride in, after New Zealand maybe.

But sriously, we talk about children. When does the child become a youngster? I wouldn't mind taking my son (15y) on a bike trip on the Grimsel Pass this summer...
