US dl conversion issue (renewed license before I came and now it's too "new")

This is a question for US drivers who have converted their drivers license to a Swiss one after recently renewing it in the US.

My problem is that the date of issue on my license is less than 3 years ago (because I just had it renewed before I came here...). The lady at the Verkehrsamt in Zurich told me that I need to get a Bestätigung that I've had it at least 3 years.

Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do/what document did you produce to prove that you've had your license for a while? I've tried calling the drivers license place in the US and they weren't helpful... any ideas?

Did you ask to your Consular Agency / Embassy in Switzerland ?

It's something they should know....

Do you have a copy of your old license with issue date and expiration date? If so, I would try that.

Does your old insurance company have a copy if you do not?

When we arrived we got statements from the motor vehicle agencies (current state and previous) about our ticket history. Since we both had (mostly) clear records this also resulted in a insurance discount.

I had something similar happen. I called up the Wisconsin DMV, explained that I needed a letter stating the date that I got my license way back when, and they sent it out to me (I can't remember if they charged me or not). I went back to the folks here, gave them my license and the letter, and 3 days I had a license with the proper date on it.
