How to check if a car seat is up to code

Any advice on where to take a car seat (from the US) to see if it is up to code in the EU?
Thanks!

An impossible task, unless the US manufacturer has the crash testing data.

Check for a sticker on the car seat to see if it has been tested/approved for European standards.

This link gives you the details and shows what the sticker looks like.

No sticker, or an older version of the sticker/approval code means that the car seat is NOT approved for use in EU/CH.

It needs to have the UN/EC marking on it:

Either ECE R44.03 or ECE R44.04.

Traditionally, the U.S. have liked to have their own set of safety standards for everything but they are slowly coming round to the fact that a set of global standards are better.
