I have been checking a lot in the forum but cannot find this information. I am planning to bring an EU car which is owned by my sister on a temporary basis. For what I've read, it is legal to have and use the EU car here for up to one year.

However, I am planning to rent a place in which there is no private parking available, but I should get a "parking permit" from the Gemeinde. I'd just like to know if it is possible to get the parking permit for a car that is not registered in Switzerland.

I'd truly appreciate if someone has passed through the same...

Go down to the local Gemeinde building (Local government office) tell them your situation they will then find you a parking space but of course they will charge you for this usually 123 swiss francs for a year but worth it as the fines are 40 swiss francs which I have already had till I found this out. Hope this helps you I am still finding things out as it was October 2010 when I came here lol lots to learn

Not likely in Zug. They will charge you 50chf a month for a street permit. They also wanted to see the registration document. The office is near the Clock Turm in the old town. Not sure how you will get on with a foreign car. Mine was on Swiss plates.

a foreign car is no problem. However, it has to be registered on you, not on your sister.

I assume that being under the insurance policy is not good enough for this...

Don't assume anything. That may be all they need to be sure it is a genuine request.
