Lausanne, last year. Exotic, but not my cup of tea.

That is a Wiesmann. Very high build quality, good handling, goes like stink. Company went bust in 2014. Nice car, actually.

Same could be said for Porsche 911s (apart from having gone bust) but again, not my cup of tea.

In Lugano, our 986 Boxster is pretty special, as everyone else is driving Astons, Ferarris, etc.

It is a bit more than just the engine - but IMHO they arrive in a too extreme setup - there is very little give in the suspension and never really dials out at speed - unlike some cars. They look and sound great and they garner positive attention but I prefer the originals

Common... ever seen one or even sit in one? They are top to bottom bespoke and loads of hours of hand work go in there. A bit too hardcore in the set-up for the average elderly man who can afford one... but other than that probably the closest thing to a classic British roadster concept - with the benefit of being made in a German shed instead, so stuff actually works.

Comparing the Morgan Aero to the Wiesmann is arguably the best comparison - and both (can) share the same mechanics - 4.8l V8 and 6sp autobox (MF4GT IIRC). Neither is perfect - the later Morgans have the more useable touring capacity but the Wiesmann the bigger cabin - specifically in terms of windscreen rake and width.

Both go like stink and handle well - although the Morgan is an acquired taste as it does without anti-roll bars.

Interior trim is beautiful on both - with incongruous stereos (of debatable usefulness).

The Morgan is a more traditional/historical experience - the Wiesmann for modern and watertight. Both you'd buy with the heart - although some of Morgan's don't depreciate any more.

Not only do they actually work, they are comparatively easy to work on, compared to the vast majority of hand built cars (shed made or not) - di a bit of work on one last year and was pleasantly surprised. Suspension is a bit harsh, methinks track handling would improve with the rear end a bit softer.

I was really surprised to see Lada Niva and that those are still sold in Switzerland by official reseller.

Reliable and cheap workhorses for the mountains. I've seen a scarily large number of them.

They can also come limited for those who have been naughty on the roads - or only have an agricultural licence.

Re: What Special Cars Have You Seen in Switzerland??

Anyone who likes classic and vintage cars and is near Zurich there are about 50 extremely rare motors on the market square at Burkliplatz.

Not many photos here but I have taken quite a few myself.

https://bellevue.nzz.ch/auto-gadgets...art-ld.1311809

There are some Ferraris but most are other even more exotic marques such as De Tomaso, ISO, Legier, Strudebaker, Bentley, Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Rolls Royce and many I haven't heard of.
Free to walk around and peer in.

Update : It is for the Zurich classic car awards:
http://www.zcca.ch/en/
looks like the event finishes at 16:30 (but I guess there will still be cars around for a few hours)

Re: What Special Cars Have You Seen in Switzerland??

I was out and about on my roadbike on Sunday and whilst cycling between Sugiez and Morat, about 30 Ferraris passed going in the opposite direction . Seems there was some kind of Swiss Ferrari meet in Aarburg that day.

That area doesn't need a meet to see crazy stuff.

A couple of weeks back I saw a Ferrari 250 GT California. Guy came round lunch time, parked, did a couple of errants, and off he went. In the meantime I was oggling and day-dreaming about Euromillions...

I saw an AC Cobra yesterday -- Not a huge deal, and probably a replica, but by far my favorite and dream car. Seeing one cruise by in the summer always puts a smile on my face.
