Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

Trying to get to Amsterdam on the 13th May for the weekend thought id take the train as a return flight at decent hours is about 400chuffs.

Got a quote from SBB one way 278chuffs!! Just waiting for a return price quote why can't they just supply it online...

Anyone got any other recommendations or places to buy cheap train tickets to Amsterdam?

thanks.

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

On short notice ( given that most tickets are booked in advance rather quickly within the 90 day window period ), no ... try www.bahn.de

Leaving: Basel Bad Bf ( German station though on Swiss soil, hence fares on Bahn.de are cheaper )

Destination: Amsterdam Centraal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Centraal

Via ( optional ) Aachen - you might get to stop over in Belgium
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aachen_Hauptbahnhof

Sometimes Via or Destination Leiden Centraal ( for the Tulips stuff ) might work
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leiden_Centraal

To reach Basel SBB you might opt to get a Supersaver ticket. Take a short train or tram ride to Basel Bad Bf.

3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Some EZJet fares attached

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

You could maybe go from the German Basel train station and get a ticket from the Deutche Bahn and it might be cheaper?

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

As far as I know, buying ticks at the Zurig HB is the only option. Don't know about travel agencies, but train ticket prices are pretty much fix-priced (unless they just have a special deal).

Depending on your age and on whether you have a 1/2-Tax, you might get it cheaper. Ask what difference it makes in the pricing. Sometimes it's worth buying the 1/2-Tax if you intend to travel by train more often.

Online does not work as most of the trip is not in Switzerland, they depend on the other train services for a full pricing.

Sorry not bein able to help more.

Good luck!
Andy

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

Standard DB return fare on DB from Basel to Amsterdam is 282,40 EUR (2nd class).

(There are some saver tickets that you can use if you book soon)

The return journey can be booked online (you need to remember to take the credit card you used if you booked online).

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

http://www.bahn.de/p/view/angebot/in...derlande.shtml

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...ellerType.1=E&

Use Google Chrome browser if your DE is flaky

Europa-Spezial Niderlande

Bahn.de also sells the Holland Pass slightly discounted

http://www.hollandpass.com/de/

I'd buy two singles - cheaper, flexible and scenic

My return would be to Schaffhausen ( get a Supersaver back to Zurich ) EUR60 or less. Discount Fare basis: BahnCard25 BC25 ( our HalbTax is equivalent and valid to be treated as such ).

Edit: Sorry for the poor quality screenshots, but I am sure you can get the same results if you tried.

Try http://www.nshispeed.nl/en/kopteksten/sitemap-english.
This is something similar to SBB in Switzerland but I guess from Netherlands. We booked through their site. It shows you the fare and different options immediately. Hope it helps!

Great tip, I have used this site www.ns.nl and then choose the one you mention, saved 50% of costs!

Also, travelling together with someone else should usually get you a discount of 50-100
% for the second person

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

I met some Dutch people the other day who'd taken the night train Amsterdam -- Basel. They said it was pretty good. I think it must be the CityNightLine:

http://www.citynightline.ch/citynigh...de/index.shtml

tricky to find exact prices - I suppose it depends on the route - and whether you buy a sleeper ticket or opt for a seat. Anyway, there are overnight trains between Zürich and Amsterdam (and Zürich - Prague, Zürich - Hamburg and Zürich - Berlin).

Re: Zurich to Amsterdam by train?

You can book these directly on www.bahn.de/citynightline so you can try and find their cheapest fares i.e. 58 euro return Zurich - A'dam for a reclining seat
