New car import

Hello everybody,

I received my new car, in Italy, on March 1st.
I moved to swizerland (and registered) on March 30th.
With the registration at the kreisburo I also got a temporary (45 days) blue zone parking permission. Now the car is back in Italy (my wife is still there, temporary).

Questions:

I have one year to change the plates and the driving licence, but what about the import of the car?
If I import it after six month, for istance in early 2012, could I save the huge amount of taxes due for new car importing?
If not, because is the permit of stay date which counts, can I sell the car to my mother and keep on using it in Switzerland as foreign car?
If not again, what if I really sell the car in Italy and buy a new one here? Should I pay anyway taxes for the italian car?

Many thanks in advance, kind regards.

Davide

Re: New car import

I believe that you have to have owned the car 6months prior to you moving to Switzerland. So it seems that you may have to pay tax on the purchase when you import it.

Drive it here for 12months, find out what the tax would be and start saving. If it is too much then sell the car to your mum after the 12 months and buy something here.

Re: New car import

Yes I guess so.

If I sold the car to my mum, who would be the official owner, would I be allowed to use it here? Actually it would be a car owned by a foreigner...

If that doesn't work, which is the office in charge of this issues?

My rought extimate is 15% of the value, and I paid it 23k EUR (roughtly 30k C HF)
