Can't extend a yearly GA?!!?

I recently got my contract extended by 3 months (from 12 months). I had a 12-month GA. In retrospect, for the year a GA wouldn't have been the most economical, but I've done the math for this summer, and I def would like to have a GA for my remaining summer months.

I had read that you can get the GA in monthly installments with a minimum of 4 months, but these 4 months CAN'T be part of my original 12-month subscription. I thought this would be something that may be overridden with a nice SBB attendant, but I'm not counting on it.

I also read here (after some one tipped me off to the possibility):
Can i get a refund on my GA ?
...that you can get a refund on unused time on your GA. Would it be possible to buy a 12-month GA and get it refunded in 2.5 months months for a good portion of the remaining 9.5 months left? I hope this would be a cheaper method that buying a halbtax with month by month GA upgrades, or by buying a 4-month subscription. Does anyone know how these GA refunds work exactly?

Have you considered going to the SBB station and asking them?

Indeed I asked, but not about this specific case. I asked about extended my GA and they said no, since it was a yearly subscription. I then asked what I could do if I wanted to extend my GA for a further 2.5 months and she said to buy 4 month GA and waste the last 1.5. Definitely not the answer I wanted, so I came here

You can get a GA rolling monthly with a halbtax card for 580 CHF first class.

Re: Can't extend a yearly GA?!!?

I had a GA for 2 years and 2 weeks, when I returned it, but I paid monthly.

Will you stay in CH after the 2.5 months ? -If Yes, it may work out to leave it at a Station for 30 days, then go to another station and leave it there for 20 days. For the time, you deposit it at the Station, you get a Voucher worth the time, and would you have a use for CHF 500 worth of SBB Vouchers ?

Doc.

Whenever I've been entitled to a refund on my GA or half price card, it came in the form of a voucher to be applied to future train passes. So you really should ask what the best solution is, but the 4 month subscription is probably it. Don't forget you need a few weeks to get it activated.

Re: Can't extend a yearly GA?!!?

I have been told by the SBB service center that the yearly GA can be returned at any time after issue. They keep 23 pc of the yearly cost after the first month, then 7 pc for each month after that.

Havent tried to get a refund though.

No, SBB is not going to refund you 9.5 months of a GA subscription, at least not according to what is stated in their AGBs. What is wrong with getting the 4 month GA? It is CHF 305 a month, CHF 30 more than the normal but you can cancel it after 4 months.

If you are riding the train to work, why don't you get a special monthly ticket just for the trip to and from work? It will probably be considerably cheaper than a GA and you can buy it every month for as long as you need it.

Unfortunately I will be leaving back to Canada, or else this would be a good idea. I have many colleagues I could pawn the credit off on, but I'm sure that they could not use this method in my absence.

Little bit confused on the wording, tell me if this is what you mean:
if you return after 1 month, you get 77% of the full cost back?
after 2 months, you get 70% back?
after 3 months, you get 63% back?
For ~2.5 months, this would then cost me ~750chf (under 25)

The point is I don't want to pay for a GA for the 6 weeks I will be back in Canada. If this is the only way, then yes, a point to point to work will in the end be a little more cost effective.

from Kosti's method (if true), it would be about ~750chf
with 4-month subscription, it would be 900chf
with point-point + halbtax + gleis7 + fares, my trips would bring it to atleast 750chf...

150chf does mean alot to a student, but perhaps something I can stomach.

Re: Can't extend a yearly GA?!!?

I was in a similar situation so I switched to monthly GA. My understanding is (and it has been confirmed by the sales assistant at the station) that you can cancel the monthly GA after 4months. So my card currently has a one year deadline but i can cancel it anytime i like
