Mobile Phones and Transport

I just saw a woman driving through Zurich one handed while the other hand she was holding onto a mobile phone.
She swerved in front of my tram to overtake a cyclist. The cyclist wasn't happy with her nor was the tram driver as a bit later she tried to filter into the narrowing road in front of the tram at the next stop. He drrrrringed her as she was still obliviously trying to edge in.
I was so shocked and annoyed by her actions I felt a compunction to exit the tram snatch he phone and drop it on the street.

Then you get the teenagers playing tunes loud from their phones annoying everyone else and probably embarassing their mates. When I hear some crappy slow German / Swiss German rap I just want to snatch the phone and drop it out of the window.

Next up we can look foward to mobile phones on planes! Aargh the horror.

Has anyone else felt this (thankfully just about controlable) urge to dispose of nuisance mobiles on the move or got any other horror stories?

Re: Mobile Phones and Transport

If I wanted to travel in silence, I'd buy a car.

Mobile phones are just part of the noisy tapestry of urban life, along with talking, farting, belching and busking.

I often hear people complain about them, but I really don't understand how they are any different from any other aspect of sharing one's space with others.

Re: Mobile Phones and Transport

I see it all the time and in the UK it was pretty much drummed into people not to drive while on the phone, so it annoys me. Then again so does loud telephone chatter on the trains. Unfortunately for the younger generation it is part of everyday life and they don't understand us 'oldies' get annoyed by it.
