Now we get there.

Get caught >50kmh you get marched to nearest cashpoint 750 Euro removed from your pocket , licence removed as a downpayment on a subsequent court case.

Its the french plods taking stand before you get roasted in court.
so its not a fine then

Nah that would be the 1500 Euro they eventually cough up for the right to drive in France again (in the court case as you pointed out)

But to someone with no intention of attending it would be indeed just an expensive fine.

I always understood that France and Switzerland did not have a reciprocal agreement on speeding infringements so if you were flashed in France you would be in the clear. However, after a trip to France a couple of weeks ago I came home to a speeding ticket (122 kph on a 110-that-used-to-be-130 stretch of motorway - but hands up, no arguments). So, you have been warned!
Just ingore it!
We did, and that was the end of the story.
Hopefully!

Re: Word of warning re speeding in France

I'd hate not to be able to drive in France, so for the sake of 40ish euros I'll probably cough up

avab has no particular reputation at present
Re: Word of warning re speeding in France

And also note that they target -especially- foreign drivers.
Now with the new legislation, it will get worse...
