Cost of moving car from US to Switzerland

Hi,

We are new to the forum and have a big move from Hoboken to Zurich coming up in July. My company is covering the move of our furniture but not for our car, so I am trying to figure out the best way to go out about this.

Has anyone been through a similar exercise recently and can tell me what the basic steps are, and what the expected cost should be? I am specifically interested in the transportation piece of it, our preferred supplier threw out a quote of almost 5000 CHF (in addition to the tax and car changes) which seems high.

It would be great to get a feel, thanks to everyone for helping.

Re: Cost of moving car from US to Switzerland

Will the furniture be transported in a container? Can the car go in the same container? Don't know the cost for a container, but adding a car should not cost as much as shipping it separately. For this reason, it might be worth bringing over.

How long will you stay? If the company will also pay to ship your furniture back to the US, and if you can transport the car in the same container, then you will save substantially. If not, you have to factor shipping the car back amongst your costs. Selling an American spec car in CH is not easy.

Good luck

Do a forum search, you'll find a few threads about this subject. Also, scroll down towards the bottom of this page, you'll find some threads about it.

It most likely isn't going to be worth it to import your American car.

Did you find a shipper for your car? If not let me know and I can get you few names of Transport Companies.
