Flying ZRH to Scotland

Hi all,

Trying to find reasonable flights during August to go back to Scotland (EDI or GLA, doesn't matter). I cannot find anything that is direct (and reasonably priced) or anything with 1 stop that is reasonably priced. Cheapest is about £300 per head.

Anyone got any tips or tricks, would ideally like to knock £100-150 off that if possible.

Thanks,
StirB

Re: Flying ZRH to Scotland

Best bet is to fly to Manchester and take a megabus up to Glasgow or Edinburgh (usually £8 but 4 hours). The only direct flights are from Basel or Geneva via easyjet and to Edinburgh.

FlyBe goes direct Geneva to Edinburgh as well sometimes and BMI occasionally has direct flights that are just stupid prices.

Your best bet would be to get a Basel to Manchester Swiss air fair for 99CHF and get a megabus for 8 pounds...or rent a car even for 20 quid per day. August prices are usually quite expensive

This trick could also save you some money.

sleazyjet fly from geneva to Edinburgh, but I would touch them with a barge pole after my last experience with them on that flight.

The Basel flights are usually better because they are Swiss based planes with Swiss staff who are much better than the orange chav-tastic British staff

Completely agree - life is too short. I'd rather walk.

As luck would have it, we are flying Zürich-Inverness-Zurich this weekend (and back on the 28th) which is why and how I found these direct flights

Car an option?

There are overnight ferry services to Edinburgh (I think - or at least there used to be...).

Re: Flying ZRH to Scotland

No direct flights to Glasgow
BMI do fly daily to Edinburgh from Zurich but it is expensive, I have never managed to get on a deal. Helvetic announced flights but these are the one a week on Saturday to Inverness.

Swiss does have deals flying through London City airport, and occasionally BA but it they are often not when I want to travel back to Glasgow. I end up using my frequent flyer miles if I am flying with less than a month's notice.

When I lived near Glasgow, KLM was usually cheaper than the low cost airlines.

I'd fly to Manchester from Manchester with either Swiss or Sleazyjet, and you can hire a car cheap as chips from www.carhire3000.com. I found a 12 day trip flights and car for £380 for me and Mama G. You'd be in Edinburgh in maybe 3 and a bit hours from Manchester, so comparable to the train from London, maybe a little cheaper unless you can grab an APEX fare, and you'll have a buggy to zip around in

Basel to Manchester are in the 99CH return offer with Swiss air with BMI just now as well.

No card processing fee
20KG bags
and a snack on board.

Great value.
