UK to Switzerland via Rail

Hi all,
Again thank you to those who have provided me with info so far. I have a question re. rail travel. I REALLY don't like flying. I need to get from Leicester to Gstaad. I understand the route. What is the least amount of tickets I need to get and does anyone have a recommendation of the best people to get in touch with. I phoned British Rail but it totally confused them once I wanted to go past Paris. Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

Re: UK to Switzerland via Rail

You can book the ticket from London to Gstaad from http://www.sbb.ch

That'll get you an all in one ticket, arranging travel to London should be easy enough for you.

SBB did me a great deal on a ticket to Austria, I'm unsure if they'll have the cheapest fare available, as usual, book in advance for cheaper tickets!

Swiss railway site is www.sbb.ch

Re: UK to Switzerland via Rail

Heyas,

Last year when i first came over here to visit my brother i took the train, as much like yourself flying absolutely terrified me. I traveled from Cheltenham to Zurich, all in all it was 3 changes but should have been 2 (i forgot about the time difference in Paris) Was a good trip as well, great views all the way (once your past paris)

I used EuroStar and www.voyages-sncf.com, total cost was a little more than a flight, but travel time was around 12 hours (including my paris mistake) So if you keep track of time i guess its about 9 hours.

Thou i would recommend flying now, as i had a job interview i just had to get on the plane and go, Scared the crap out of me for about the first 15 mins, but once your up there and the free alcohol has been passed out it was great fun also the view as you pass over the alps is quite breathtaking.

Good luck with your travels
