Send a bike from Zürich to Copenhagen

Hey.

I am going home next month with the train, but unfortunately I couldn't buy a bicycle-ticket so I can take my bike with me. It would have been the easiest and best solution seen from a costperspective (about 10 euro).

Anyone has a good idea of how to transport my bike to DK? It is a city-bike so the dimensions make the cost of using a normal parcel delivery service very expensive.

Best Regards
Claus

Re: Send a bike from Zürich to Copenhagen

You could kindly ask the other DK members in here to take it for you. I know a few that make trips home every now and then and usually take their cars. Could be that for a few CHFs, someone could help out a fellow Dane and take your bike in their car? Try making an advert in the for sale/wanted. (Or perhaps transportation section? Not sure on that one)

Good luck.

Hey Neil

Thank you, that sounds like an idea. Think I will see if some of my fellow danes see this post, or else I will take you advice and post an offer in sale/wanted.

No Problem Claus,

In fact, it just so happens that I know a couple who are moving back to DK at the end of June. They will move to near Aarhus and will be hiring a moving company to take their furniture. I will ask them to see if they would have any room spare for your bike. Will let you know in the next few days.

Re: Send a bike from Zürich to Copenhagen

Sorry, Claus. My friends don't have enough room in the transport. They even have to leave some stuff behind because it won't fit into the truck. Try making an advert on EF. Maybe you get lucky.

Good luck.

Re: Send a bike from Zürich to Copenhagen

There are some cheap fares from Basel Bad Bhf to CPH on rail with bike carriage included, as low as EUR33 ( reservations included ). Friday the 24th appears to be a good day for me.

You might want to cancel your ticket and re-purchase it with the bike option, if it appears to be the cheaper way ultimately.

EDIT:

Taking a bicycle on an intercity train

You need a bicycle ticket and reservation to take a bicycle on an intercity train. You can book and pay for this conveniently in one step when you buy your ticket for all intercity and Eurocity trains in Germany. The reservation for your bicycle is included in the price.

Bicycle tickets are currently only available online when you buy a rail ticket. If you already have a rail ticket, you can obtain the bicycle ticket and reservation as usual from one of our points of sale.

This is how you can book your bicycle ticket:

  • When you search for train connections in our "Advanced search options" select the option “Take a bicycle”. You can then select exclusively from trains which transport bicycles.
  • Enter the number of travellers and select a connection. Please note that small children have to be declared in the Travel Information if they also require a bicycle reservation (or a seating reservation).
  • You can complete the booking after entering your reservation options, whereby you can basically select between the self-print Online-Ticket and the ticket to be sent by post (EUR 3.50).
  • The number of the coach in which the bicycle compartment with your bicycle reservation is located is printed on your ticket. Please use only the bicycle holder which is reserved for you.
  • You will receive a bicycle ticket slip together with your rail ticket which has to be attached to your bicycle in a place where it can be easily seen (ideally on the handlebars). The slip contains information about your journey with the bicycle.

Re: Send a bike from Zürich to Copenhagen

I have already bought a "spar night" ticket which is nonrefundable.
Actually the situation is that I go home at the 14'th and bring my bike with me, and my girlfriend has to go home between 17'th and 21'th, but all bike reservations were taken at these dates. So we have bought a ticket for her for the 18'th (nonrefundable - 29 euro) as this was the preferred day to travel. Now we just hope to find a way to bring her bike back as well... The 24'th is therefore too late for us.
