Extended Business Trip to Basel

Hi,
I am hoping someone has some advice. I (and my family) will be in Basel for ~8 weeks. I will be working most of time. ~ 6 weeks will be between Basel and Allschwil only. Are there monthly bus/tram passess that can be purchased if you are not a resident for only local buses and trams? If not, what is most you can buy at kiosks or visitor's bureau?

Thank you for any help or guidance.

If you have a residence permit of some sort (even temporary) you should be able to buy a monthly ticket- 70 CHF per month. Without a residence permit, you can still buy a monthly ticket but it will cost you more- can't quite remember how much, but maybe 20 CHF more? Otherwise, you can buy a multitrip ticket- 6 one way journies for around 17 CHF; about a 10% saving over regular tickets (3.20 each). A one day card is now 8.50.

The transport tickets cover all modes of transport (bus, tram, train) in the relevant zone.

Hope this helps.

If you have any kind of working Visa or Visitor Visa you can get the monthly tram pass for approx 96 CHF and for that you need to go to visitor bureau at Barfussarplatz or Huewage. Btw are you going to stay in a Hotel because most of the hotels also provide day passes for free to their guests, so probably you can enquire. Hope that helps.

95CHF for a monthly pass for non-registered people. 70CHF for registered. Add on ten francs to make it transferable.

Re: Extended Business Trip to Basel

Had another thought........

If you have a swiss rail pass, I understand it can be used for local transportation also (tram, buses, etc.). Correct?

If I use it for local transportation only on a single day does that count as using one day of the pass or do I need to use a train to use up a day?
For example, train to Lugano (1 day) then tour on next day using local transportation (1 day) and train home (1 day) the following day. Would that count as 2 or 3 days off pass?

I'm pretty sure you *could* use your Swiss Pass for all 3 days, but it might make more sense to use it for 2 days (trip there and trip back) and then buy a local pass for the "local" day.

My guess is if you use it on local transport, and you are checked, then they will probably stamp your pass and you would lose the day.
