Need advice on car issue - lease Vs buy Vs import

Hi

My wife is a Swiss/Venezuelan dual citizen. She travels on her Swiss passport and uses her VZ drivers license. I am a US citizen . We currently live in San Francisco.

We will living in Lausanne August 2011 - June 2012, planning to drive a lot around Europe. ( we already rent an apt where my stepdaughters live, but they are leaving and we are moving in.)

I know about the short term lease programs for the Peugot and Renault but the cars don't appeal very much ( guess I am spoiled as I drive a Range Rover Sport here in the US).

We could rent from Avis which gives monthly rates, but I am told that a rental car will not qualify for the Blue Zone parking permit

We could purchase a car on arrival and sell 10 months later, but that involves two hassles.

I could import a new US car and sell in SWZ. Perhaps the price differential between the US and SWZ would offset the depreciation?

What thoughts and experiences can you share?
All replies much appreciated. ( and yes, I have read most of the threads related to this )

Rick

Hello Rick, So what did you decide finally? Have you purchased or leased a car in Switzerland? Have you come accross some good leasing options? Me and my wife are considering to move to Switzerland in few months. Regards.

Import... nooo too much hassles + costS!!!

Really for less than a year... Buy a second hand car in Europe-probably in Switzerland.
Don't be too picky, you won't need a Range Rover sport here!

After exhaustively considering all options, we decided to buy a used car upon arrival and sell it when we leave 10 months later. All other options were too cumbersome.....except for just renting from Avis which would be the easiest of all BUT can't get a Blue parking permit that way

Regards

Thanks for the advice. You are right! ( just hope selling the car won't be too difficult)
