UK to Swiss License

Hey

My UK driving license has expired and I just wanted to know if I need to renew it in the UK before I can change it over to a Swiss one. Be alot easier if I could just get it renewed here and exchanged straight to a Swiss license.

Any idea's?

Thanks

This might help: [Drivers licence] Conversion and questions

Technically speaking if your driver's licence has already expired you do not have the valid one. Most likely you would have to do theoreticals and practicals in Switzerland. It's a bit of a pain to go thru this routine.

I had the same dillema and firstly I renewed my DL and then applied for the Swiss one.

Thats to old paper one, the credit card ones with a photo have to be renewed every 10 years.

If you have not been in Switzerland more than a year (from the time you first registered in Switzerland) you can exchange the UK driver's license to a Swiss one without having to take any tests. Once you exceed the one year limit, you will have to go through the whole test procedure, even if your UK license is still valid.

Re: UK to Swiss License

The photo id needs to be renewed every 10 years. You can do it online if you have a fairly new passport otherwise I think you have to send it and the paper licence off somewhere by post.

renew the photo id and then trade it in for a swiss one.
