Hi all - have read lots of posts about getting a 2nd hand bike. Looking for a run-around for my girlfriend (say 150-250 CHF worth)...

came across idea of flee market and also monthly bike sales, but am struggling to find dates for Zurich for the Velobörsen

any tips?

Borrow someones bike and be cleaning it in front of your building, in no time at all someone will offer you a new bike at a bargain price, just don't try to sell it on here afterwards

Has anyone been to one of those sales? Is it abandoned/found bikes being sold? Just noticed there's one tomorrow in Nyon... my 1970 Tigra could use some parts from a donor...

I have been to the Helvetia markets quite a few times.

There is a wide range of people selling their bikes their........ some are a bit dodgey, but mostly it's OK.

HOT TIP: .... go early

You will often see very similar bikes with a wide range in their prices, so it pays to have a good look around.

If you should look up german language based portals like http://www.veloplus.ch/veloinserate/...=id&order=desc use the keyword occasion for second hand. Same at ricardo.ch, an auction site. I got my MTb from there. Good luck.

We've found what we wanted every time we've gone. Except the first time. Then we turned up late.

Best to turn up before it opens to look at the bikes and then pay for your bike when they start selling them.

Why not ricardo? I got one MTB bike for 70chf in almost perfect condition and another (Scott) MTB for 100chf which was a bit more battered and had the rear derailleur bent, but I fixed it and it's working fine. I have them since 9 months and no problems so far (I'm no hardcore biker, but do go through woods now and then )
