Wanna go on a motorcycle trip with wife AND kid. Side-car?

Hello fellow-effers!!
So my friend would like to go on a (rented) motorcycle trip (Germany/France), with his wife and 4 year old daughter.

Is there an option for them?
Is this allowed on a Trike bike or on a motorcycle with a side-car?
If yes,Do we get the above on rent? (Basel, but they cud travel anywhere to pick it up)

Any other ideas for them?

The wife and I plan to go,and they would love to come along.
We're renting a motorcycle too.

Thank You!!!

There you go, in Lörrach, not too sure about taking a 4-year old with you, better you ask first, as to the side-car: Would not do it!

Thanks for the links !!

None of you riders (want to/wanted to) ride out with the family ?
I was hoping for more replies ,regarding the Law, for kids on a bike/trike/side car.

No news on the internet for me either!!

My suggestion would be to hire a 4-seater convertiable (A4, 3-series, other).

With a wife and child onboard it is going to be safer - and a lot easier to transport all the bits and pieces they will need.

Yes, safety was my primary concern. I was hoping they had some sort of an enclosed side-car with seat belts, etc here !

Re: Wanna go on a motorcycle trip with wife AND kid. Side-car?

I've had a sidecar for 20 years, when on many a long trip with wive and kids, wife on the back, kids in the sidecar, used car-carseats in the sidecar until 5 or so, first rides at a bit past one year, the other at 5 months.

Used to haul camping gear, baby bed, stroller as well (on a luggage rack at the rear of the sidecar).

LeMans1000 with Squire RS3 sidecar.

Re: Wanna go on a motorcycle trip with wife AND kid. Side-car?

Hi sorry for changing the topic a bit but we are thinking of getting a sidecar for a BMW motorbike and wondered what the regulations are in Switzerland as I have not seen many - does it need a separate licence plate and can we import one from Germany if I cannot find one suitable here?

Thanks in advance
Annabelle

You have to get it tested as a compete unit.

I installed mine myself, and also did the test, but I had previously helped a mechanic-friend do a couple of similar installations, so I knew what to do.
