Re: Coolant Question
Hi Confloozed,
Your car is probably fine. You should be able to find your car's coolant capacity in your owner's manual. The coolant capacity of the car should be several liters, while the reservoir holds probably a liter or less. So, you haven't changed the overall ratio of water to antifreeze by very much (once you've run the car and gotten the fluid mixed thoroughly). If you're worried, just watch the temperature gauge as you drive.
Generally in hot weather it is better to have a mix of less antifreeze and more water, but unless your car usually runs near the edge of overheating it shouldn't make that much difference. When winter comes around, if it gets very cold where you live you'll want to make sure the ratio of antifreeze to water is correct to avoid freezing.
My first car had a slow coolant leak, and I just alternated refilling the reservoir with water and antifreeze to maintain about a 50:50 ratio. It worked fine. (though that car had plenty of other problems ...)
