I`m on a lookout for a new car and some of the listings (Comparis.ch) have the following in the description:

Garantie: 2 Jahre ohne Kilometerbe- grenzung (ab 1. Inv.):

So, Warranty: 2 Years without mileage limitation (from 1 ???.). From 1st what?

I find it kind of hard to believe that there is actually someone who are willing to give a 2 year warranty on a vehicle (costing around CHF 35,000) that is from 1999...

Anyone know and are willing to share would be highly appreciated...

from the first time you register it and put a plate on it. "Ab 1. Inverkehrssetzung"

Edit: To make it clear: From the time a new vehicle has been reigstered for the first time by the first buyer of the car. So if a new car sits at a shop for say two years, you will still get the full time starting from the day you put a plate on it.

but if it is a 2nd hand car, then presumably, the guarantee may have already expired?

Correct. And it really makes no sense to mention it in an ad for a 10 year old car.

However, as the warranty was an option when the car was new in the same way as heated seats etc. it shows up on the list on autoscout when a used car is listed, as it is somewhere pulled out from the autoscout database.
