| | Help needed with buying month ticket for Basel trams!
Hi all, as there's so many people living in Basel on here, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me fathom this out.
I will be travelling from Vicques, Jura to Basel, Schifflande daily for one month, by train. I would like to buy a month pass, on a point to point travel card from the village to Schifflande (which is reachable with a tram from Basel SBB).
I have tried on the SBB website, but it only allows me the option to start from my village to Basel SBB.
Does anyone know if there's a way I can include a city pass on my monthly card, or the options available for the cheapest tram ticket?
So far I'm calculating CHF 172 return.
(ps I'm under 25)
Cheers, Yasmina |

I am not sure if this helps in your city, but please take a look. http://www.bvb.ch/en/tickets-fares/tnw-transport-network |

You could ask here: Agence de Voyage CFF Delemont
I'm sure they can help you.

In situations like this I've always found it better to go and speak to operators in the train station and ask them what the best option is.
Quite often they're able to suggest an option which is not available on the web site or via ticket machines.

Okay, well guess I'll just have to go in person |

I do know that you aren't allowed to buy monthly tram passes for tourists and the such (we tried that for our mother-in-law and they said that you have to be a valid resident of Switzerland/Basel (I can't fully confirm on the Basel part, but I'm almost sure that you have to have to live in the surrounding areas, some one please correct me if I'm wrong).
The only option I can offer is the 5 pass card that you can use, and you can buy it at any one of the kiosk machines in Basel that is just stamped. I think you get a small discount on it (though I've never used it) - it'll at least save you some hassle every 2-3 days | This user would like to thank *Whindian* for this useful post: | |

Just for reference sake, if anyone else stumbles across this; you can't buy a tram ticket for Basel in advance - they need to be bought in Basel (as I was informed at my train station!) Thanks for replies!

Swiss residents who are not resident in the TNW area can get a transferable monthly abo for 105 CHF, non-transferable for 95 CHF. http://www.tnw.ch/tickets-und-preise/abonnemente/u-abo/ 70CHF non-transferable for under 25s.
If you get one of these, then the point to point ticket from your village only needs to reach the first stop within the TNW region. Which in your case looks to be Laufen. It has to be somewhere that the train actually stops though. If there's a direct Délémont - Basel train, then a Vicques - Laufen point to point wouldn't be valid.
You need to check the cost of doing it this way, against a regular monthly Vicques to Basel, and, for example, multitickets (by 10 journeys get 12).
You can get daily tickets to Basel, including "City-Zuschlag Basel" which gives you a day ticket for the whole of Basel. I guess they've told you that this isn't available monthly?

This will come in handy when they come and visit again in the fall! Amazing what information you can find on an internet instead of a person to person conversation! | Quote: | | | | | You're wrong.

There is a bus service between Vicques and Delemont and a direct train from Delemont to Basel, so the TNW pass wouldn't be valid as you say. I already bought my monthly pass, paid chf172, which I don't think is too bad, I'll make the journey 44 times, so just under 4 bucks each way is okay by me.
The guys at the station didn't seem to know anything about Basel trams, the furthest they could make my point to point was to Basel SBB. They said they couldn't do anything at their end, so I'd have to sort that out in Basel.
So you're basically saying there is a monthly tram abo, but it could be cheaper to buy 12 for the price of 10 tickets?
