This.

Also, just thank your lucky stars we're an EJ route & not a RA one. Seriously.

Re: How come BA is cheaper than EasyJet??

It might be worth checking www.opodo.co.uk, not necessarily to book but to get a feel/comparison of the prices. Opodo includes Easyjet and Air Berlin (which I think is also a low cost flyer - correct me if I'm wrong) so does make comparing slightly easier. I wouldn't necessarily book through them. Try going through the airline's own site for that to see if it might be cheaper, but definitely worth looking at first...

Always check Swiss and BA before easyjet I guess. i do not fly to the UK but I had such awful experience with EJ that I decided I would not do that to myself anymore...I know it works perfect for some people but the awful lines and not knowing your seat annoy me very much. Yes i am a control freak

If you want to save money though- why take a cab to Cambridge???
Me too. I fly to the UK and back every month, or six weeks.
Each time Easyjet announce their new batch of flights, I book several.
I travel mid-week. That's the secret, if you can do it.
Frequently I pay somewhere around Sfr.150 for a return flight Gvr/Lon.G'wick and booking in a suitcase too.
It's a cattle-truck experience for a cattle-truck price.
The gate gets further and further away, and I reckon we'll soon be walking to the channel and being rowed across but, until then, I switch-off my critical powers and switch on my music and go-with-the flow.
If you want more, pay more.
I think it's pretty good value, and at least it's possible to sometimes change one leg of a return, unlike other airlines.
I prefer BA into Terminal 5 at Heathrow, but rarely find BA cheaper.

Re: How come BA is cheaper than EasyJet??

Same here. Don't forget the train though. We take the TGV just before 10.00, have lunch in Paris- then EuroStar and we are at StPancras at 16.00- switch to a train to take us 'home' in a jiffy.
The key is to book 90 days in advance for the best price, especially if you can be a bit flexible with dates. Usually around 100E (our nearest TGV station is in FRance, with direct buses there) return. No need to fuff about getting to and from airports- very relaxing, lovely views - brilliant.

Well the train route from Luton aiport to Cambridge south is awful, 3-4 changes that takes about 2:30 hours for a 1 hour car journey and is about 50 quid return. Yes I may save about 50 pounds on the return fare but when you consider I have already been travelling about 5 hours to and from Zurich and I am often only staying in UK for 3 days, it makes you think twice..

I always check BA, Easyjet and Swiss before I go back to the motherland. Swiss can have some really good deals.

http://booking.swiss.com/web/Swiss-O...d-Ireland.html

£220 return seems very expensive regardless
I am sure for my first trip which started from Luton I only paid 120 pounds return at short notice, and I sometimes wonder was that because it was off season ie not summer or do does the website give different fares depending on whether your starting point is Zurich or Luton?

I have just booked some easy jet flights ZH LGW ZH for £59 return. Had I not had an original flight starting in London which I cancelled it would have cost £65.
That seems an amazing price. Can I ask how far ahead of flights you booked these ?

It is not uncommon to see different fares depending on whether you start in Zurich or London. Zurich-London return tends to be more expensive than London-Zurich return.

True, but these days at least Gatwick is actually the more pleasant experience than Heathrow (and that's not a compliment for Gatwick but an insult for Heathrow). Also, depending on what your onward travel plans are, Gatwick is often better situated, such as having direct trains to very many different places whereas from Heathrow you can really only go into London.

1st November returning 3rd November, I also booked Basel - Amsterdam return 12th September for £63.

Having a startingt flight in London which you then cancel gives cheaper prices than starting in CH!

Just in easyjet's defence - I recently flew zurich - london with BA and easyjet - better legroom on easyjet !
My cousin, in the travel business, says BA is known in the industry for having some of the shortest legroom in the air.

When I go back to the UK in August I am flying BA though came to Basel on EJ. As well as cost, it's timing for me as getting back to Edinburgh at midnight, or leaving at the crack of dawn to get there, is no good for me commuting from out in the countryside with no car. (Relying on a bus, bad).

And as an aside, I fancied the train from London to Edinburgh to get back north. Cost: GBP113.00 one way. BMI is taking me back for GBP34.00 I mean, seriously......

I hadn't been to Gatwick since 2006 (the very day the whole liquids/gel thing started) and I have to say, on my most recent visit last month, was quite impressed. Hate Heathrow and wasn't keen to go to Gatwick either, but unfortunately, there is often not much choice other than those London airports. I'll always fly to regional airports when I can.

Re: How come BA is cheaper than EasyJet??

Easy Jet needs to be booked 3 to 4 months in advanced to get the best rates. The closer to the date you wait the higher the fare is. It is all because the plane fills up quick. I flew to Lisbon from Basel I booked in 4 months advanced and it was just 70 chf that is a round trip. Again the earlier you book the greater the deal is

You can be lucky both ways. I once booked Easyjet to Alicante for 60 Franks plus charges on the actual day of departure.
