Photo in traffic

Strange happening today: was cruising on the (3 lane) highway and overtook some peugeot van. Immediately I saw him accelerate and follow me. He then proceeded to tailgate me for about 3 km. I don't mind this kind of thing so I let him be.

After about 3km, I was cruising in the middle lane out of 3, and switched to the fast lane to overtake some golf, overtook him and moved back to the middle. Now this van guy didn't follow me, but he instead remained behind the golf and flashed him to "move aside". The golf didn't and then the van overtook him like I did, then zoomed past me also.

This seemed to mightly piss of the golf driver, which accelerated himself and began flashing the van like crazy. I thought maybe the golf was some cop and would pull him over, but instead he just followed him through traffic, lane changes and all, and started taking pictures of him with the mobile phone. In the end they both slowed down a bit and I overtook them cruising at constant speed.

My question is: what will this guy do with the pictures? Can he actually send them to the police and claim the other driver was aggressive or something? And will this have any effect in the end? I mean, it's just a picture and his word...

Probably upload them to his Facebook page and have an endless stream of comments about what tw*ts van drivers are.

Surely he will drop himself in it if he goes to the Police and presenting evidence that he used a mobile while driving?

He could give the van reg to the police and report dangerous driving. The police here seem to like giving warnings to people based on reports from members of the public (it's happened a few times to people where I work).

How is it aggressive if you pass someone and you're not weaving in and out of traffic or speeding at an excessive rate? (of course, in Switzerland....nvm)

Re: Photo in traffic

maybe if everyone would move to the damned right SLOW lane these issues would not be coming up. What I usually do is shoot past them, not cut them of but make sure they see I move over all the way to the right lane after. works 60% of the time and they will move. with the pics he can do whatever he wants, nothing will happen

I had some moron on the A3 this morning do exactly the same thing, only 2 lanes approaching Zurich and they're blocking the outside lane for 3km at 110 when the limit is 120.

If only I could fit rocket launchers to my car, or blue lights I'd love to slap tickets on people for not returning to the right lane.

That is exactly the sort of everyday situation that made me decide to sell the car for good - and use public transport and /or the bike. The roads are full of tw*ts like that.

I know of one person who said, and I quote, "I'm too much of a man to use the inside (slow) lane."

From some of the comments I've read on this forum in the transport section - there are a few blokes on here who also have with insecurities regarding their manliness.

Hey middle lane hoggers:
As I am not allowed to undertake you on the right lane please switch to the outer lane if you are cruising less than 120 kph and also if you have a gap of 400 meters or more regardless of your speed. Worst I have seen: car on middle lane approx 100 kph, bus with approx 105 has to go from far right to far left to overtake that {CENSORED}.

With the exception of you driving in the middle lane, this all sounds very "James Bond".

However this is not James Bond, this is Switzerland, and using your mobile phone while driving is an offence.

My guess is that the photographer will probably receive an angry registered letter in the mail and get "SWITZERLANDED" by the Police with a traffic fine.

I ask a legitimate question and inevitably the patronizing remarks appear. Very englishforum-like, I must say

Wait. I thought they were both behind you.
Maybe re-read my post more carefully? Else, here's the short version:
1. I overtake van
2. Van tailgates
3. I overtake a golf
4. Van doesn't overtake, but flashes him instead.
5. Golf doesn't clear lane, van overtakes him and me
6. Golf gets pissed, overtakes me and tailgates the van, flashing him throughout
7. In the end the both slow down and I go past and my constant speed
8. I get home and post on englishforum

Why? I was going 130 on the clock, 120 on the gps, in the 2nd of out 3 lanes. The first lane was full of slow morning traffic (mainly trucks). So I used the next slow lane, 2nd that is, and 3rd occasionally to overtake, then moved back to 2nd. Do I now get the sympathy back?

See above. I think I did the right thing driving in the middle lane, as the first was full.

Otherwise thanks for the explanations. So there is not much the guy can do or much that can happen to the "offender". To be honest, I didn't think flashing was a "capital" offence myself, as I've gotten it constantly back home for 10 years, but here I've only got it once from a bmw, when driving 60 in a 80 zone

I'm reasonably certain that either the average Swiss
a) is unaware of this or
b) doesn't care

Fair enough, yes you can. But when you say "cruising in the 2nd lane", it did imply that you were doing just that, and not simply overtaking the slower moving traffic.
