Swiss Air Train/Plane combined ticket?

My parents will be visiting in October and they would like to take a few days to visit family in Italy - near La Spezia. The trains seem to take 9 hours!!! I looked at flights and the nearest I could get them to LaSpezia was from Zurich to Florence. Couldn't find flights to Pisa or Genoa.

I know there is a flight from Basel to Zurich and I thought this would be easier than them taking the train by themselves to Zurich (they are from rural America and do NOT use/have public transportation). When I did the search on the Swiss airline website, only one (very early) flight came up from Basel to Florence via Zurich - the rest all showed a train from Basel to Zurich - then the flight. This seemed to be the same price as just the flight from Zurich to Florence. Are they throwing in the train connection for free??? It shows the origination as Basel SBB, Plane type as 'Train'.

Has anyone tried this before?
