Hi all - we're heading south for the weekend from Zurich. Not too worried about Friday evening as we're collecting the car about 5pm and only heading as far as Chur. Then working our way down to Locarno / Ticino.

On monday we come back via the Gotthard pass (not the tunnel) back to Zurich. Trying to figure out what time we should leave, how much time we have for sightseeing and playing in Alpine passes on the way home

Just wondering:
- if this usual journey time is say 2.5 -3 hours, what would it be on a bank holiday / public holiday Monday like this one?
- are there times of the day we should avoid, or is it like most places where the trick is to get on the road early enough?
