Vehicle repairs in Germany

I recently had some minor work done in a garage in Germany. I claimed the VAT back at the border, and didn't know that I had to pay the customs duty on the parts.

I was stopped at the border, and they charged me the duty. Fine no problems. But he tried to tell me what I need to do in the future but I didn't fully understand.

He said I first need to go to German customs, then to Swiss customs.. or something.. Does anyone know the correct procedure?

Re: Vehicle repairs in Germany

You first stop at the first border (German for your case) and ask for export stamp and than with the same document go to the second border (swiss of course) and show that document and ask for import stamp...They are two rectangles on the bottom page one next to each other, if I remember them good.

Sometimes you don't have to pay duty on import if it is 150 EUR per person a day - I think I got the right number. I got the swiss stamp one time for free.

Very simple, go to German customs, then to Swiss customs!
