Motorbike helmet off when filling up?

Hi everyone...

Wanted to fill up my bike last week (at an Agip near Adliswil) and was refused entry to the shop because of me keeping my helmet on. They literally refused to open the doors until I took my helmet off. Now I do have a flip up helmet so they can see my whole face when I open the helmet but they made me take it off completely before allowing me into the shop for payment.

Found another petrol station on my commute now where I can pay at the pump with my card..so no one to tell me off... but just wondered is this the same behavior others have experienced here in CH?

In England I just kept my flip open helmet on all the time when paying in the shop...

Re: Motorbike helmet off when filling up?

Yes. It's a safety precaution.
I guess they are afraid in case of a potential robbery, they'll be not able to identify the attacker as the face will not be recorded properly.

All we know is, he's called the Stig.

Made exactly the same experience and was also so surprised that I post here about it: Gas stations with bouncers?!

Yep, very common, had this at a few stations. Others are fine with the flip up, but can never tell.

Re: Motorbike helmet off when filling up?

you've done the best thing - take your business elsewhere.

imagine how many people have fuelled up on camera and then walked into the paying area and robbed it......

Truthfully, how hard or inconvenient you to take your helmet off, really?

You obviously don't ride a bike

In did, I don't ride A bike, I ride SIX bikes! (3 Ducatis, 2 Guzzis, and a Yamaha).

I always take of my helmet when entering a store/kiosk, common sense.

That's why I prefer fully autonomous stations. I can do everything myself without taking off helmet and loosing time to take it back (I wear glasses).

I can also avoid unnecessary communications with staff.

Perhaps, but even today when I stopped to fill up at Wassen (took the afternoon off and did Novena, Grimsel, Susten, Oberalp, and Lucomagno, 350 km), I took my helmet off to eliminate the insects that covered my face shield!
