Any 2nd hand garages that lease?

Hi all - we are looking to lease a 2nd hand car for 18 months. So we really want a car, but are only going to be here for 18 months. So we have ruled out buying new, and using mobility (will be doing too high kms etc). Want car for 2 reasons 1) flexibility to head off exploring at short notice and 2) carrying kayaks which we own.

Our original plan was to buy something cheap and cheerful for about 5k CHF, and sell it on for 3k in 18 months. Again is only a run around, and not car proud! But worried we will struggle to sell it on again. Dont want to have the stress of trying to flog this OR the uncertainty of possibly loosing all 5k on something.

What we're wondering is - can anyone pass on the name of 2nd hand garages in Zurich that would lease 2nd hand cars to us for this sort of budget / duration? We know we would pay more than buying, BUT it would give us some certainty in terms of monthly cost and also selling / returning when we're ready to leave.

So any suggestions for garages please!

Cheers
GC

I'd stick with the <5k budget - speak to Zurlinde Garage - he is speaks good english, and usually has a good range of cheap cars.

If I was you - I'd be looking for an old Merc or Volvo estate - and a rook rack!

Look what I just found

Re: Any 2nd hand garages that lease?

great thanks - will give him a call.

Important for us, is the lease thing I guess. We know there are 2nd hand cars for sale, but would prefer to pay a little bit more to ensure someone will take it back off us when we are heading off. Happened me at home, had car for sale for 6+ months. Worth about 3k, ended up dropping it to 1k just to sell yknow?

Prefer to pay bit more, but know our costs!

I would be very surprised if you find anything!

The lease is unlikely to be under CHF400 a month, so the buy CHF5k car and scrap it at the end of the 18 months might be a better solution!

Re: Any 2nd hand garages that lease?

In my view you'd be better off with a 3000chf Volvo/Merc estate - after 18mths it'll only be worth 500chf anyway because it will need a new MFK when there is a new owner.

2,500chf for 18mths motoring is about as cheap as you'll get over here.

If you do want to lease - Bank Now and GE Money are arguably the big 2 away from the main dealer network.

In both cases - find the car at a garage, apply online with Bank Now, give them all the information, they'll then deal directly with the garage. Remember though, with a leased car you'll need Fully Comp insurance - which is based on the NEW VALUE of the car - and not on what you paid for it. They rightly believe that a 100,000chf new price car will always cost the same to repair - even if it is only worth 10,000chf.

Buying something old (and cheap) for cash means you can go with 3rd party insurance only.
