Switzerland to Bruge by train

How possible and cheap/expensive is this to do. Looking at end of November/December for the Christmas market and not having a lot of luck finding information out atm as looking at a weekend.

Is there a direct train that links preferably Geneva but can do Zurich if needs be to Bruge.

Would it be better to just fly?

Re: Switzerland to Bruge by train

I'm almost certain there's no direct trains.

The obvious routes would be Geneva-Lyon-Brussels-Bruges or Geneva-Paris (Lyon)-Paris (Nord)-Brussels-Bruges, taking about 7-8 hours.

For timetables I would use Deutsche Bahn's website (strange I know, but it has the best interface). For booking and cheap tickets, Voyages-SNCF.

I would be surprised if it the train were cheaper or quicker than flying on that route.

Re: Switzerland to Bruge by train

There are several direct trains (Zurich -) Basel - Luxembourg - Brussels per day, with good connections to Bruges from Brussels Nord station

Re: Switzerland to Bruge by train

Haven't looked especially at Bruges but I looked at Rotterdam and it is a long journey (10 hours) with at least changing trains 2x. On a Sunday you can drive it in 7 hours from Schaffhausen, maybe a little longer from Geneva?
