| | Buying a car in a different canton
Hi All
I'm in the process of buying a new car. I'm living in Zug canton but the dealership is in St Gallen. Any implications of buying (& presumably registering) the car in a different canton?
Thanks!
Andrew

Hi Andrew -
I bought my car in Luzern in March '06 and I live in Züri... the dealership took care of everything for me and when I picked her up she had a ZH Birth Certificate (a.k.a. the "Carte Grise") and lovely shiny license plate. I had organised my own insurance of course, but other than that all was well and taken care of by the dealer (used I might add). Oh yes, and then, very promptly indeed, the annual road tax bill arrived in my mailbox... pro rated 9 months natürlich
Hope this helps
Fiona

No problem. The dealership you are buying from can have the car registered in Zug for you. I bought a car in Schwyz and the dealer had everything ready for me when I collected the car. They registered the car in Zurich, got the plates and fitted them for me, all they needed was proof of insurance.
There is another thread about this, I'll see if I can dig it out.

Are you buying from a garage? and do you already have plates?
If the answer to either of these is yes then it should not really a problem,
I bought my car from a garage in a different canton and it took about a week to get the plates (First set for me in CH) but the garage did everything for me.

Yep the dealerships usually sort everything out.
We got our car from a local dealership as we thought it would be easier to take it to the same place when it needed a service or if any issues arise. They also spoke good English which also helped |

Thanks all.
Three weeks to go, then I pick him up, nice to know he'll be able to get shiny ZG plates

Hi Marcus
Well remembered about the Alfa, unfortunately I was on a huge reserve list so didn't get to buy one.
I'm getting a Gallardo Spyder, it arrives at the dealership in a day or two, can't wait!

You're obviously a good guy to get to know then !!
We spoke a while back on the Pistonheads website when you were in Hungary and questioning a move to Zug. I've just sold my m3 and looking to get a 997s, 996 GT3 or turbo. Perhaps we can meet up for a trek to the ring or circuit in Basel when we both take delivery.
Cheers
Marcus

Hi Marcus
Yes I remember... Have you decided which car between the S and the GT3?
I've also got a 996 GT3 and they are FABULOUS cars, IMO you won't go wrong if you choose one. PM me and we can sort out meeting up for a beer in Zug.

If I were in the UK it would certainly be the GT3 and would get some track work done. Here it seems a little too extreme and I think my wife would be a little intimidated. The S is a great option but I'd ideally like it to have dropped a little more depreciation. That's where the turbo comes in.
As you can see I'm a very decisive person !!

Ahh, see where you're coming from. Though I wouldn't discount the gt3 still, my wife drives mine with a baby seat for our 3 year old and they both love it. Its the most 'alive' road car I've ever driven. But the turbo can't be faulted either, and it has some rear seats! Enjoy being indecisive, that's the best bit!

Hello everyone,
Does anybody here know what is the annual tax disc for a vehicle on swiss plates for canton luzern? I am thinking of importing a 3,200 cc vehicle from an EU country. I have spoken to the Swiss Customs and Excise about import duty tax (which I was told is exempt) but they couldn't tell me smt with regards the annual tax disc. I know that in some areas (like those of VAUD) annual cost depends pretty much on CO2 emissions but some folks told me its entirely different on the German speaking sector. Any help or link woud be of much help.

Every canton is different. For Luzern an engine size of 3200 cm3 costs CHF 606,-- per year. With no catalysator, 30% more tax for a dirty exhaust emission.
