park behind him so you're blocking his exit.

this is illegal and known as Nötigung, which might get you in trouble.

Probably not, if he is in your place parking behind is perfectly reasonable.

Re: Someones' car is parked at my place - whom to report, pl?

At our flat in the UK, we got a note on the screenscreen telling us off for using OUR spot - that someone else had got used to park in. The bleeding cheek

If someone parked in my spot, that I have paid for, when I want to use it- I'd defo park behind with a note saying where we are or mobile number- and then give them a piece of my mind. TBH, I don't mind if they use it when we are not there (the whole of this year so far !!!) but ...

Did you confront the person directly as an English Person would or did you leave a Swiss Passive aggressive note, being a UK/CH dual National I am intrigued

As we parked behind them- we left a note saying which flat we were in - and then gave them a piece of my mind- face to face

Re: Someones' car is parked at my place - whom to report, pl?

So I don't get it, it's against the law to be cm beyond from the parking markings and you switfly get reported to the police for that.

But if someone uses your paid parking spot, without a note with their phone number, you have to what, leave your car where if there's no other spot?

Use a public paid spot and send this tresspasser your invoice or how?

Why am I thinking that this is an expat problem? Reading this forum, people got reported to the police for much much less then occuping somone else's parking spot.

Public space/criminal law vs. private property/civil law.

Two completely different things.

Post the car plate number here and I'll tell you the name of the owner.

I don't suppose any of you remember the days when each C/Kanton had a directory of each number plate, with the name of owner and their address- and each household had one. My dad would look up any car parked anywhere near any of his 'secret' mushroom spots!

No?

Ok, just wanted to help as you said you don't speak German well...

so here is what I'd do:

Step one: look up the registration number. In LU it's for free: http://www.linker.ch/eigenlink/autonummern_index.htm
Unless somebody actively opts out are all car owner infos in Switzerland public. So you have some 90% chance to get the name.

Step two: Look up the name in the phone book. For example here: http://tel.search.ch
Call the guy up and tell him to move his car if he doesn't want it towed.

End of story.

My web-fu is really strong today.
I just looked up my license plates and got my full name and address...unbelievable how little care there is for privacy here!

How can opt out from this registry?

Edit: I found out the response to my question, this could be done online for canton Zurich in less than a minute here: https://www.zh.ch/de/mobilitaet/fahr...gregister.html
