Are there any mandatory items for bicycles (Bell/reflectors etc.)?

I know you need the vignette but anything else mandated?

About to buy a new bike in UK before coming out and these are the first things I usually take off! Should I leave them on for Switzerland?

Thanks

I don't know if these are mandatory, but buy a pair of good lights for your own safety.

It isn't as strict here as Germany (and even in Germany they rarely enforce the laws).

You should have a bell (but many don't - as long as you're not mute it's not a big deal) and you will need lights when it's dark. If you don't have any lights during the day it's no problem.

In Germany you're meant to have dynamo lights fitted permanently to the bike, day or night, but I've not known them get stroppy about this in daylight. Intererstingly, bikes under a certain weight are exempt.

The Vignette is cheap (around 5Fr) and will be valid until May 2012 after which, if rumours are true this time, it will be abolished. The consequence of that is that private liability insurance will be mandatory I believe. It isn't currently, although most have it, and landlords often demand tenants have it.

A helmet is not mandatory, unless you are riding an electric bike, but always a very good idea, in my opinion.

Same as U.K. regs (more or less).

i.e.

Lamps (front and rear). Can be removable. Must be visible at 100m.
Pedal reflectors required (except if you have "racing pedals").
Front and rear reflectors.
Bicycles weighing more than 11Kg need a bell.
Front and rear working brakes.
Apparently you need a lock, too.

You'll find the regulations here, in German
