Off-Roading in Switzerland

Hello guys.. I know you are all ready to tell me it is forbidden in Switzerland, but isn't there someone of you who owns a 4x4 and who made some off-road here in the Confoederatio Helvetica?

Any wanderwegs or remote places that can be covered with a 4x4 car?

If you guys know one of those places I will join you right now

Hi. Use of the search function would have found this thread with lots of useful posts. Or, look at "similar threads" listed at the bottom of this page. Almost anything you can think of has been discussed many times before on EF.

And... don't hold your breath about finding somewhere to off road in this country unless you are a farmer or logger

Re: Off-Roading in Switzerland

I realise that to many this is soooooo boring - but for me, a lake is so much more wonderful without those big fat noisy mosquitoes called 'jet skis' - and same for the woods, mountains and country-side without those other noisy things called off-roaders, quad bikes or snowmobiles. And the wildlife is much much happier too. Sorry.

Re: Off-Roading in Switzerland

I drove up to the top of the Glacier at LAAX when the lifts were closed due to high winds in December 1 year, I can tell you that was exciting.

Re: Off-Roading in Switzerland

I also like the off roading .. but i search a lot on the forum about this and also found out that here is not possible :S

I guess coming from a country that is huge comparing to switzerland you get to have a lot of dirt roads .. and you can acctually take the whole road without finding someone on your way.

I only approved offroading when is an a trail .. that is already being set for this used, and when you dont destroy everything that is on your way

I found out that when done right, is another way to experience nature (i also like to go hiking, and started to do a little rock climbing in Mexico )

Re: Off-Roading in Switzerland

...might want to note that driving on farm, forestry, mountain and other roads closed to public traffic without a permit can bring fines of up to CHF5,000, and should you get in trouble on such roads, "roadside assistance" plus fines can get way up there. Making and maintaining such roads costs quite a bit, so any misuse or abuse will not be greeted with kindness and understanding.

Re: Off-Roading in Switzerland

are you talking about 4x4 or motortbike? There are routes for motorbike available.

other option is france on the "chemins" but not all are allowed.

BEST option is italy, we returned for a weeks enduro riding and covered over 1000 km off road.

there is an off road "park" somewhere in southern switzerland i seem to remembe but supid expensive - as normal.
